Schedule Your Rewards

If you lapse, recognize that many people quit several times before they stop for good. If you do lapse you can examine what happened from the information in your stop smoking diary so that you can plan a strategy if that situation comes up again. Then try to quit again.

Schedule rewards for yourself for the first day, the first week, the first month of not smoking. Start thinking of what you want to do with all the money you will save by giving up this dangerous habit. In a year most people spend in the neighborhood of $900 or so on tobacco products (if they are a pack a day or so smokers). While that is a long time to wait, you could plan something really special to do with the money from the first three months, then the next three months, etc.

Each day without smoking should be seen as a victory. Those victories can never be taken from you. Each day without smoking is a dress rehearsal for success. Each day is money in the bank.

Don't wait for others. Reward yourself.

save your smoking money.
