Starting a Nutrition Program

On any given day, about half of all Americans are trying to lose weight. As a society we are consuming fat free chips, cookies and ice cream at ever higher rates, but obesity and it's related diseases just keep getting us. At the same time, it seems that you can't open a magazine or turn on the television lately without some celebrity talking about their latest diet success. One day it's all about being a vegetarian, and the next day it's all about eating nothing but steak. What is a person supposed to think? More importantly, what are you supposed to do?

It is not necessary to have perfect eating habits to lose weight and improve your health. Eating can be as complicated or as simple as you would like to make it. The foods you choose and the amount of food you eat varies depending on the occasion, setting and how you are feeling. Your cultural heritage and customs also influence you, as do your individual food preferences. A demanding job and a hectic lifestyle also influence the time you have to invest in preparing and eating food. Fortunately it is possible to eat well and not feel deprived. It is possible to make gradual changes towards a goal of better nutrition and improved health.
