Mark Takes Action

After two months of really good progress on improving his health by eating healthier foods, biking on Saturdays, and working out at the gym twice a week, Mark was assigned to a new unit at work with a new boss. This made Mark feel really tense, and when Mark was tense his way of coping had always been to sit in front of the television and eat junk food. He started missing his appointments at the gym and started buying chips and dip at the convenience store on the way home.

A funny thing happened though. Mark realized that he was feeling worse just sitting on the couch eating. After a couple of days of missed workouts, he decided to stop by the gym on the way home for a "quickie" workout. Once he started to work out, he found that he felt much better. He also decided he had made too much progress to sit around eating chips and substituted walking around the block or playing with his kids instead.

Test Your Knowledge:

Mark's situation is an example of failing at a program of change.
