Qualitative overload, also a form of overwork,
has more to do with the match between the person and the work than the total
amount of work. Perhaps assigned tasks are too complicated or difficult for
you. Or perhaps you have been promoted into a supervisory role without any leadership
training. It could be that you simply take on too much because you cannot say
no.
With qualitative overload we
must look to the person and their skills. Opportunities for addressing this
kind of stress include:
Make an effort to improve your skills
in managing tasks in time. There are many good books on time management and
good articles in LifeHub. Read them and develop a personal plan of action.
Identify the skills you need to improve
and then work with your boss in obtaining training. Perhaps you need to improve
your ability with an often used software, or it could be that your on-the-job
training cut some corners and there are gaps in your skills. Seek training.
You must be realistic about what you can
do and what you cannot do. Start by being sure you are realistic with yourself.
Then be realistic with your supervisors.
