The most dramatic example of stress from
career issues is retirement. However, if you have career plans and the current
job is not contributing or is actually diverting you from your career goals,
that can be a source of stress. Moreover, it is often difficult to sort through
the issues causing stress, because career goals themselves are not clear. So
begin addressing these issues in this way:
- If you have not set career goals for yourself
or you have not reviewed them lately begin by doing so. If you need to modify
them, do so.
- Find a person in your field and discuss
the goals with that person. How realistic are the goals? Change them if need
be.
- Ask your boss to give you advice about
your career goals. Often from seeking advice you will obtain important information.
