The Right Attitude: Non-judging

Non-judging means trying before rejecting – or accepting. Most mindless reactions come from categorizing or judging experiences automatically. We judge some things as "good" because they make us feel good, and other things are "bad" because they make us feel bad. When trying relaxation exercises you may make the judgment "this is a waste of my time" or "I can't do this" or "this is boring." The first step is to not judge. Realize your mind works this way; notice the judgments and then let them go. Do not act; they will tend to fade. If you wrestle with them, you will keep them in your attention. For example, if I ask you not to think of an elephant you will certainly think of an elephant. If you direct your awareness elsewhere, the thoughts of elephants will fade.
