Introduction To Six Sigma

Counterproductive Roles

Constructive roles within your team are valuable indeed. However, counter-productive roles can break a team apart. Such roles are summarized in the screen that follows. It may be useful to summarize these roles at the very outset and to discuss the damage they do very openly. That way the entire membership of the team can take on the responsibility for management of the damage to the team that is inflicted by persisting in these roles. Perhaps the most damaging of all the roles is the aggressor. They express disapproval by attacking the values, ideas or feelings of others. Nothing can stifle your team more quickly than a member who demeans others. Both leadership and membership must work to manage the aggressor role.

Look at both the role and the description. At your next team meeting watch for these roles as they express themselves.
