Making a Commitment
 

After expanding your awareness regarding the need to change, and your options for accomplishing your goals, it's time to make a Commitment to start your personal change process - and to set a date for starting those changes.

In this stage, you know you want to change, but have not established your exact goals and/or specific steps to reach those goals. You are simply affirming that you are going to change and will begin careful preparation to make those changes. Research has shown that when someone is willing to "go public" they are more likely to follow through with behavior change. To really make a commitment you should state what you are going to do in writing, and then share that statement of commitment with others you trust. That may be your spouse or partner, a close friend, a coworker or even your boss. Putting your thoughts in writing helps you to clarify exactly what you want to change and begins the process of goal setting.

Take a moment to think about who you want to share your commitment with. Then use the space below to practice writing that commitment to yourself and others. Your commitment can be as simple as, "I am committed to getting the clutter out of my home office by October 15th", or as specific as "I am committed to losing 30 pounds in the next 12 months".
